Regardless of whether we believe humans are causing it or not, our planet’s climate is changing. The evidence is obvious: rising sea levels, more volatile weather patterns, mass extinctions. Humans are not immune to this process. Rest assured: the planet will survive, even if (when) we don’t. These paintings are my response to this issue.

The Native American Seneca Nation of Upstate New York are members of the first true citizens of America. Inspired by and honoring the eight Clans of the Seneca Nation, these paintings incorporate in some cases a nebula or other feature inspired by a Hubble Space Telescope photo or an imagined feature combined with an invented constellation.
Some of these paintings use glow-in-the-dark and black-light paints, in addition to traditional acrylics and oils, for very cool effects in darkness and with UV light.

Centuries before European explorers “discovered” America, native peoples populated the entire continent. As settlers reneged on promise after promise not to take their lands, these Native Americans were pushed to smaller and smaller reservations, their lands literally stolen from them in the name of progress. These paintings honor those Native Americans and their legacies.

For thousands of years, indigenous peoples all over the world have left their artistic mark on rocks, caves and cliff-sides. In the southwest United States, the colors of the indigenous rock coupled with these beautiful drawings and carvings by our Native American ancestors inspire me to try to recreate them on canvas and hardboard. But I can't ignore ancient artists from the rest of the world.

The universe is an infinite canvas, filled with literally endless works of art, from distant galaxies to our own Milky Way to nebulae to individual planets and moons. I am tirelessly fascinated by photos from the Hubble Space Telescope as well as what pictures form in my brain.
Many of these paintings also incorporate glow-in-the-dark paints for cool after-dark effects. Imagine a whole room filled with stars, planets and nebulae by day and night!

I had this crazy idea to create a petroglyph of our dog, Nellie. It was so much fun and emotional that I thought it would be cool to do for others what I did for us. Send me a picture of your pet and I'll immortalize them in stone (or in this case, paint!).
